So far I've read: The Last Lecture by Randy Paush. If you haven't read it, I highly suggest that you do. You can also watch his official "last lecture" on YouTube. The book is very moving and motivational. It was a quick read, a tear jerker, and thought provoking.
Now I'm reading Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. I'm only up to chapter four, but I'm intrigued. I am afraid of what I will be reading as the book continues (I feel so bad to hear about young girls going through what these characters are experiencing thus far.) And I'm sure you have already read the book. As I said, I haven't read a good book in some time.
And my friend Ke. who I visited in NYC also gave me a book to read and I just loved it! Have you read Jamima J by Jane Green? For all of you food lovers out there, if you're anything like me, you might just really relate to Jamima when you're having one of those binge eating days/nights.
Now that I'm back on the reading train, what do you suggest I pick up next at the library?

If you haven't read any Jen Lancaster books, I totally recommend them!! starting with Bitter is the New Black. She's so funny. And you just took me back to how much I loved my troll collection, ha!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Chelsea, I love the Jen Lancaster books. I am reading Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner and she has really good books too! Sophia Kinsella is another favorite Chick lit author!! Loved our troll displays!! Glad to hear you have the reading bug back! My mom is reading the help for her book club and I cant wait to read it after her, ive had it on hold at the library since december, quite the popular book!!
ReplyDeleteI also had a troll collection. Wonder where they are...? Memoirs of a Geisha was pretty good. I really enjoyed it. Currently, I'm reading a historical fiction called Confucius Jade by Frederick Fisher. It's about people that find their lives entangled as they search for a precious jade carving as it promises redemption and long life. It's set in China and filled with adventure, Chinese mythology, priceless gem, mystical powers, and intrigue. I'm really enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteI still get a warm fuzzy feeling all over when I step into a library. The smells... the BOOKS... the only bad part is that the one near my place is always filled with middle schoolers being loud and playing on the computers whenever I stop in after work. I try not to let them ruin my time browsing the stacks, but sometimes it is hard to ignore the loud laughing and obnoxious gossip-y chatter.
ReplyDeleteI am currently working my way through the Jodi Picoult section of the library. Even though her books are very emotional, and some give me nightmares (The Pact), I think she is an incredible author for being able to evoke all kinds of new thoughts and feelings in her readers. I also just finally read Julie & Julia and I LOVED IT!
Since it's just about summertime, go for the fun, entertaining reading. The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich is great. "one for the money," "two for the dough," up to "lean, mean fifteen."
